Revving Up for Thanksgiving

I know this post is a little (okay a lot) delinquent but better late than never.

It is a little over a week until Thanksgiving and you should have started prepping already.

No seriously. To make Thanksgiving and eventually Christmas as easy as possible start with a longer prep time that way on the big day and possibly the day before you won't feel shackled to the kitchen.

First thing to do is to make room in your pantry and freezer. You don't want to go shopping and have no room for your groceries.

Things you should buy now (today) if you haven't already:

The Bird - Yes, it seems premature to get the bird now but you don't want to wait too long because you may have to purchase one that is too large or too small for your needs.

The Ham - Same reasons as the bird.

The Alcohol - Whether you are cooking or serving alcohol/wine with the meal, now is the time to get your bottle or two.

The seasonings - Have you ever tried to buy pumpkin pie spice the week of Thanksgiving? You don't want to have the last encounter I did where I almost decked an old lady in the spice aisle.

The pie crusts

The veggies - Onions, garlic, celery, bell peppers

Cooking oil

The can goods Cream of mushroom soup
Cranberry Sauce

Basic Baking Goods

Aluminum foil - This most versatile kitchen staple

Also get double now for Christmas.

  1. I bought my bird, stuffing mix, seasonings, macaroni noodles and other stuff about 2 weeks ago. On Monday I'll buy the fresh squash and any desserts. But I totally agree with you. I've already told my husband he has to clear off the table in the garage which normally serves as my other fridge but I'm nervous because it's still kind of on the warm side here.
