Moolah Monday: Turn to Church

In this new feature, Moolah Monday I am going to share my brainstorms on developing multiple income streams. There are two reasons why I am having this feature, first is to fulfill one of My 2010 Financial Goals. Hopefully, one of them will be able to fit your situation if not mine.

I was talking with one of the accountants at work. We were jaw jacking about the trials of having kids who participate in athletics. (He has five kids,  all five are under the age of twelve.) He was saying how he had to miss his oldest kid’s basketball game because he was the Activities Director at his synagogue. He had scheduled an event for not only the same day but the same time.

I was asking him if there was someone who could substitute for him. He told me that he was paid to be the Activities Director. Accountant Dude gets a salary of $10,000 a year to be the Activities Director and the Complaint Desk.

So this leads to Money Brainstorm #1 Turn to Church or Synagogue or Mosque

Anglican Victorian Parish Church, Twickenham, Middlesex

Find out if there are any open paid positions that you can fill at your worship place. These positions can include:
  • Church Secretary or Administrator
  • Choir Director
  • Musician (Play the piano, guitar, organ, heck the tambourine.)
  • Food Service
  • Activities Director
  • Youth Director
  • Maintenance
  • Daycare Worker
  • Complaint Desk
  • Archivist or Historian
  • Sunday School Director
  • Accountants or Bookkeepers
If these positions aren't available at your place of worship maybe they are available at a place near you. To find a list of churches near you try Worship Quest.org (not a complete listing but a start).

Also, many places of worship have school or daycare they run. This could give you another opportunity to generate extra income. If you have a portfolio or your work send it around maybe you will get a bite. There is also Church Staffing.com, Church Employment.com and Ministry Employment.com internet job boards.

What do you think? Would you turn to your place of worship to earn more? Tell me in the comments section.
